An Australian surfer has punched a shark which assaulted him off the north shoreline of New South Wales, say police.
Craig Ison, 52, endured genuine leg and arm wounds amid the assault off Evans Head from the get-go Friday.
Geoff Slope, a companion of Mr Ison who saw the episode, told neighborhood media it was "similar to watching a Mick Fanning replay".
